Hampton Court Castle, Near Leominster
“Possibly the most ambitious private garden of our time…one of the most successful public gardens in Great Britain.” Stephanie Donaldson, Country Living, Gardens Editor
Hampton Court Castle is a 15th-century castle nestled in the Herefordshire countryside. A perfect day out for all ages, it features a range of highly-acclaimed gardens including numerous herbaceous borders, pleached avenues, kitchen gardens, island pavilions, canals and a 150-year old wisteria tunnel leading to expansive sweeping lawns and a play area. Open everyday during spring – autumn, the Castle hosts special events throughout the summer such as falconry and jousting.
Visitors delight at the 1000-yew maze, with a gothic tower at its centre it offers panoramic views of the gardens and even includes a secret tunnel! The River Walk is home to some of the estate’s largest older trees and has some beautiful photo opportunities looking back to the Castle across the lake.
Take a tour of the Castle dating back to Henry IV and have lunch or afternoon tea in the beautiful Orangery Cafe designed by Joseph Paxton. Ingredients are often picked fresh from the Kitchen Garden, or otherwise sourced from local producers. All cakes are homemade and the scones are often hot from the oven.
The Castle is also an exclusive-use wedding venue offering spectacular function rooms, 24 luxurious bedrooms and use of the gardens for the most stunning wedding couple photography.
